| Biographies |
Carla Brookbank Schaal Owner and Founder of Brookbank Fastpitch, Carla brings to the table a vast amount of knowledge and experience in fastpitch softball. She is known for her unique ability to relate to her students with a positive and patient approach. She is one of the most dominating women's fast pitch players ever. The name Carla Brookbank became synonymous with softball excellence. Either on the mound or at the plate, she was outstanding. Carla led Springfield High School to two State Championships in 1988, and 1989. She was All League each year, and All Summit County, All District, and All State her sophomore and junior seasons, including her selection as Beacon Journal Player of the Year in 1988 (she sat out the 1990 season due to a knee injury). Carla was inducted into the Springfield High School Hall of Fame and was a Dapper Dan Award Recipient three times. She decided to continue her education and softball career at Kent State University where she was named All Mid American Conference (MAC) in 1991, 1992, 1994, and 1995 (she sat out the 1993 season due to another knee injury). Carla was named the Golden Flashes' Most Valuable Player in 1992, 1994, and 1995. Her senior year she was named both the MAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Year and she was named to the NCAA All Region Team. Before leaving Kent, Carla set numerous school records. A few include 70 wins, 459 strike outs, 113 complete games, 26 shutouts, 877 innings pitched, and an ERA of 0.67. She graduated from Kent State University in 1995 with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and in 2000 with a Masters Degree in Nursing. Carla was inducted into the Kent State Hall of Fame. She joined the Women's Professional Softball League (WPSL) in 1997. She was nominated for the WPSL'S Most Valuable Player Award in 1997, was named an All Star in 1998 and 1999. She played for the Akron Racers in 1999 and 2000. Carla played for the California Sunbirds in 2004. She currently holds several pitching and hitting records in the WPSL. Carla was inducted into the Akron Amateur Hall of Fame. In 2002, Carla was chosen by Team Smith Nationals to tour the country and compete in an International Softball Tournament which consisted of many of the Olympic Softball Teams. Highlights of the tournament include her 1 hit shut out against the Canadian and Great Britain Olympic Teams, and a third place finish to the USA Olympic Team and the USA Olympic Team B. Carla resides in Green, Ohio with her husband Robert Schaal. They have one son, Jack. She works as a Nurse Practitioner. |

![]() Lisa Venezianno Frame What a tremendous asset to the coaching staff at Brookbank Fastpitch. Brookbank Fastpitch considers Lisa one of the most motivating Hitting and Defensive Instructors on staff. She is definitely intense and determined in training her athletes to the highest level. She had an outstanding career at Northwest High School and Kent State University. Lisa became the first Kent State softball player to be named MAC Player of the Year in 1993 when she batted .401 with 71 hits and 37 runs-batted-in in 54 games. She was selected to the All-Midwest Region and All-MAC First Teams that season after garnering Second Team all-league honors in both 1991 and 1992. As a freshman in 1990, she helped the Golden Flashes to the MAC title and a trip to the Women's College World Series. She still ranks among the top 10 in 10 career offensive categories. Lisa resides in Tallmadge, Ohio with her husband, Damon. They have one daughter, Reese. |

![]() Lea Dorto Brookbank Fastpitch is excited to have Lea Dorto as an instructor. Lea brings to us a poised and professional approach to teaching hitting and defense. She is extremely enthusiastic, patient, and innovating. She had an impressive career at North Canton Hoover High School and Kent State University.2003: Named Verizon 1st Team Academic All American… Graduated with a cumulative 4.000 GPA and Summa cum Laude honors... Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week on April 8, 2003…Named to the All MAC 1st Team. 2002: Was named to the Verizon Academic All-America Third Team ... Also was named to the Academic All-District first team and Academic All-MAC Teams….Led the team with a .314 batting average and topped the team and tied for second in the conference with seven home runs ... Started 45 games for the Golden Flashes ... Also led the team in slugging percentage (.533), on-base percentage (.361), hits (43) and runs-batted-in (25) ... Was the MAC East Player of the Week April 22 ... Batted .297 with five home runs and 14 RBI in MAC play. 2001: Appeared and started in all 54 games for the Golden Flashes ... Was named to the Verizon Academic All-District Second Team ... Led the team in runs-batted-in with 30 and home runs with six ... Hit .288 for the season, which was third on the team ... Batted 20-for-69 (.290) in conference games ... Was named to the all-tournament team at the Kentucky Invitational…Named to the NFCA Scholar All-America Team ... Was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll. 2000: Appeared in 46 games for the Golden Flashes, starting 45 of them ... Batted .191 with 17 run-batted-in…Only had nine errors in 325 chances… Awarded the Lou Holtz Award for most outstanding Academic freshman. High School: Hit .353 as a junior to help Hoover High School to the first of their back to back Ohio Division I state championship ... Was selected to the All-State Second Team, the All-District First Team and the All-Federal League First Team at second base ... Set school records for doubles in a season (10) and in a career (21) and hits in a season (45) Personal: Lea currently resides in Medina, OH and works as an Account Manager for the Military and Helicopter Market at Goodrich De-icing & Specialty Systems. Lea and her fiancé, Steve, are in the process of planning a May 20, 2006 wedding. Lea stills holds a great love for the game of softball and hopes to instill this passion in her students through patience and a positive attitude. |

Amy Cheney Densevich Amy is a 1994 Graduate of Field High School. She broke the OHSAA record for most wins by a pitcher. She earned four letters at Kent State as a pitcher and first basemen. Amy was honored as an NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete in 1998. She graduated from Kent State University in 1998 with a degree in Education. Currently is the Head Softball Coach at Hudson High School. Amy is a school teacher and resides in Stow with her husband JD. |

Tammy Stires Tammy is a Graduate of Tallmadge High School. Was selected to the all-state first team as a senior at Tallmadge High School after receiving honorable mention as a junior ... Led team to back-to-back state titles in her final two seasons ... Set a school record for wins with 27 ... Earned three letters in softball and two in volleyball.Tammy pursued her Softball career at Kent State University. In 2000, appeared in 27 games for the Golden Flashes, including two appearances on the mound ... Pitched a scoreless inning against California March 10. She won the Coaches Award at the season-ending team banquet for her perseverance and team play in 2001. Tammy graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Psychology. |
